Power saving with Bidirectional Visitor counter

Power saving with Bidirectional Visitor counter

The objective of this project is to make a microcontroller based model to count number of persons visiting particular room and accordingly light up the room. Here we can use IR sensor and can know present number of persons.
In today’s world, there is a continuous need for automatic appliances with the increase in standard of living; there is a sense of urgency for developing circuits that would ease the complexity of life.
Also if at all one wants to know the number of people present in room so as not to have congestion. This circuit proves to be helpful.

This Project “Light Automation using Bidirectional Visitor counter” using Microcontroller is a reliable circuit that takes over the task of controlling the room lights as well us counting number of persons/ visitors in the room very accurately. When somebody enters into the room then the counter is incremented by one. Over here we have extended the project by using a Temperature Sensor LM35 which will be used to monitor the room temperature so if the temperature of the room is high the fan will turn ON. If there is no one in the room the room lights automatically Turn OFF. Moreover the total number of persons inside the room is also displayed on the LCD.
The microcontroller does the above job. It receives the signals from the sensors, and this signal is operated under the control of software which is stored in ROM. Microcontroller 89s52 continuously monitor the Infrared Receivers. When any object pass through the IR Receiver's then the IR Rays falling on the receiver are obstructed, this obstruction is sensed by the Microcontroller.

Power saving with Bidirectional Visitor counter

Infra red sensors are a type of light sensors they function in the infra red part of the frequency spectrum. IR sensors are active sensors They consist of an emitter and a Receiver. When the beam is cut the controller then accordingly comes to know if the person is entering or exiting and then accordingly increments or decrements the count which is then displayed on the 16 x 2 Alphanumeric LCD.  If there are people in the room the controller turns on the power in the room. Since the controller cannot provide the necessary power a relay is used. The controller turns ON/OFF the relay using a relay driver circuit. The ADC is used to monitor the room temperature and accordingly Turn ON/OFF the fan.

Hardware Requirement:

  1. Microcontroller 89s52
  2. LCD: 16x2 Alphanumeric Display
  3. IR Sensors
  4. Relay & Relay Driver Circuit.
  5. ADC: MCP3202
  6. Temperature Sensor: LM35

Software Requirement:

  1. Keil Software as Compiler.
  2. Proteus for Circuit Designing
  3. Protel for PCB Designing.

APPLICATION:

  1. Offices.
  2. Public Places
  3. Restrooms at railway stations

Advantages:

  1. Completely Automatic System
  2. No need of human intervention.
  3. Can work 24x7 without any problem.
  4. Low cost and very easy to implement.
  5. Power Saving

Disadvantages:

  1. If there are multiple doors for the same room the project becomes quite complex.
  2. IR sensor cannot detect if lots of people are entering at one time.

Future Scope:

  1. Multiple devices can be turned ON/OFF instead of just lights.
  2. We can check the ambient light intensity and then decide if the light needs to be turned ON or not.
  3. Metal detector can be added for security reasons
